It’s the weekend, so I won’t bother you with deep thoughts and dark musings today. Instead I’ll share with you a tweet, video, infographic, article and a hilarious pic I found on the web.
But since it might turn into a series, I tried to come up with a name for this and failed. So I asked my contacts on Facebook and again… failed.
The (Failed) Facebook Poll
Here’s what happened: I created a poll and asked the following question:
I want to write a blog post where I recommend articles, pictures, videos and other cool stuff I found on the Internet. What should I call it? And please feel free to add your own suggestions
This resulted in 4 comments (with some good advice), 1 Like and only 3 votes [Update: Max Heywood (@mpheywood) just added a vote]. And all votes were for a different option. But that’s not all. Since I allowed my useless fantastic friends to add their own option, one copy-pasted part of the question and suggested:
articles, pictures, videos and other cool stuff I found on the Internet
In the end I decided to go with “Shiny Web Stuff” as voted by Geoff Webb (@radicalrecruit).
Social Media Cheat Sheet
This infographic compares and describes the online communication channels Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Google+, Tumblr and Digg. Then it discusses the pros and cons, gives advice on how to get started, explains the specialties and finally shows the audience size.
This is a great resource that can come in handy. I found it via Sarah Dovlo on Pinterest (@sarahdovlo) and repinned it to my Pinterest board “#TruGeneva: Suggested Topics”.
I can give you access to this board if you want to suggest topics for #TruGeneva. And let me know if you need a Pinterest invite.
Tweet Before You Snooze
This tweet by Sara (@TeenyTinyBean) totally cracked me up. And although she’s (still!) using a CrackBerry, she is a wonderful person 😉
Good morning #earlyshift I WILL have a positive start to the day, I WILL have a positive start to the day, I WILL… Yawn, snooze!
The Creative Ransom
Andrew Grinter and Lee Spencer-Michaelsen purchased the .com domains of Melbourne’s top creative directors. Then they sent out a threatening message. Watch the video if you dare, but these guys are pure evil!
Anyway, the goal was to meet these creative directors in order to get a job.

What Is Klout?
In case you don’t know what Klout does, here’s how they explain it:
The Klout Score measures influence based on your ability to drive action. Every time you create content or engage you influence others. The Klout Score uses data from social networks in order to measure [..]
Stay tuned and you’ll understand in a minute why I mentioned this…
It’s Okay To Be A Little Antisocial
This is a very interesting article called “The Brutal Truth About Social Media: It’s OK to Be a Little Antisocial” by Ad Age. The intro gives a good idea of what you can expect:
Here’s Why Most Consumers Will Never ‘Engage’ With Brands or Content, and Why It Doesn’t Matter
Stop Staring At My Klout
Now that you know what Klout is (see above) you should be ready for the following. The lovely lady in the picture is Ray Anne Thorn (@ray_anne). And I’m posting this on the weekend since it might slightly be NSFW…
It was initially published by Craig Fisher (@FishDogs) on Facebook, but I “stole” the picture since some of the commenters may not have realized that it’s a public posting 😉
That’s it for the first episode of “Shiny Web Stuff”.
